Weekend Recap
Its been a pretty good weekend.
Friday the girls were out of school and I convinced Taylor to leave us the car so that we could get out of the house for a bit.
The kids voted to go to the Library. We haven't been for months. I enjoyed being in such a relaxed environment flipping through all the board books with Mattie while the girls picked out there own assortment. All three of them put on a puppet show and I even got a book on tape to listen to when I am driving to and from work. (I have piles of books here at home that I need to catch up on so I didn't get anything else).
When we got home we made peanut butter cookies together. We spent the night hanging out and watched Mr Magoriums wonder Emporium. It was very cute.
Yesterday (Saturday) after spending half the day playing outside and the other half cleaning out closets I got to go scrapbooking with a bunch of friends. It was so nice to sit back and be creative, and I am pleased to announce that I have finished Matt's first year book! yeah! Now each child has their birth story and entire first year scrapbooked, completed, and in their box.
I'm doing a lot less scrapbooking now that I've got this blog.
My intent for scrap booking was to journal through pictures, so that the kids would have something to look back on, and now that I have the blog, I can post pictures AND write more about what is happening on a daily basis..... well, And then some.
Someday I'll put it all together and it will be a book for the kids to look back on and see what we did. It might not be as pretty but atleast its something........ Or at least they'll see how much I suck at punctuation.
When I got home around 11:30pm the girls were still awake in our bedroom watching TV. Taylor was dozing on and off, and I was wide awake. I started flipping through channels and at about midnight a show caught my eye. By then Megan and Taylor were snoring, but Ali and I were getting deeper and deeper into the movie. Every time it would go to commercial we'd groan and I'd ask "should we turn it off?" both of us were hooked and wanted to keep watching. I had my hand on the remote the entire time just in case there was a questionable part in the movie but I never had to change it expect for some commercial breaks that would have made a sailor blush! The movie was Looooong, especially with so many commercial breaks. Before we knew it, it was 3 o'clock in the morning! 4 if you count the daylight savings time change.... We were laughing that it was so late, and I asked Ali what we were going to do when we would be so tired in the morning that we couldn't stand up? It was fun. I liked having that time with her even if the movie WAS a little over her head, and it was 3 in the morning.
I looked the movie up this morning and found that it was Pride and Prejudice. I have never read it, so I hadn't recognized the story line. I quite enjoyed it..
so right now the girls are lying here in my bed watching cartoons, Mattie is asleep, and I'm expecting Taylor home from work in about an hour.
Good weekend..
Hope yours was good too.

Memories
I threw out things like
“What’s your favorite color”
and “if you had 5$ what would you buy your sister?”
I got some pretty typical answers, but then I got some pretty sweet ones too. It isn’t often that my girls show love towards each other, so when I hear the occasional proof it makes me very happy.
This is what I learned
Ali’s favorite color is still yellow. (It has been for about 4 years)
Her favorite food is still mashed potatoes, and spaghetti.
If she had 5$ to spend on one person she would buy
Megan “things to color with”
Mattie “a toy”
Me a “fairy or a frog or a Make over” (should I take that personally?)
Ex (her Daddy) “climbing stuff”
Taylor (daddy too) “a new hat or something like that….”
I learned that if she could go anywhere she’d go to Hawaii, or California,
And If she could spend time with anyone in the world, it would be her family.
She also wants to have a slumber party for her birthday.
Megan When asked about the 5$
Turned and asked Ali “what would you like Ali?” which I thought was very cute. Ali said she’d like “a book”. (ahh, a girl after my own heart).
She’d buy Mattie “a toy”
Her Daddy (Ex) “climbing or camping stuff”
Daddy Taylor she wasn’t sure of….”what does Daddy like?” she asked
And we didn’t even get to me, because there was too much squirming and talking about Birthday parties that I had to move to the next question..
So I learned that if she could go anywhere right at that moment, she’d go “swimming”. After hearing Ali’s answer, she changed hers to Disneyland.
She’d spend time with her family, and
She WANTED to have a Ballerina Birthday party… including Jack! “do boys do ballet Mom?” but after hearing that Ali wanted a slumber party, she’s decided that she is going to have one too.. With Michie, Emmy, and Mia.
To keep the mood going I started telling them stories. Now for those of you who know me, I love to get lively when I tell the kids stories.. I use motions, gestures, and different voices with facial expressions.. I love to see the sparkle in their eyes when they hear stories and they love it even more when I get animated.
I began with stories of myself when I was a child. I told them of the time we stepped out of our cabin in Yellowstone to find a Buffalo right outside our door.
I told them about how when Pushing kids on the tire swing in third grade I ran into the pole and got a concussion. I dramatically re-enacted the entire scene for them, including my Teachers reaction to the giant welt on my forehead. . I told them how I was the ‘best tire swing pusher in third grade” to which Ali responded “That comes from you then, mom, cuz, I’m the best tire swing pusher too, I get that from you! It must run in the family”.
I told them about the time I broke my pinky playing kick ball, and thought my pinky was my thumb.
I described to them the temperature of the water as we jumped into the pool for the first time every spring. (I definitely burned calories re-enacting that one!)
I ran out of my own stories so I went on to tell them stories about when they were tiny.
I told about Ali’s pacifier addiction and how no matter how hard I tried to get rid of them she would always magically find one hiding somewhere, and when she did, she’d pop it in her mouth happily and suck away. She LOVED the binky!
I told of Megan when she was about barely crawling and would climb into the baby bouncer and bounce so hard she’d catch air.
The girls were giggling and begging for more. I remembered that I had Megan’s bouncer jumping on video so we went in search of the old home movies. As it was getting late, we spent just 20 minutes playing the tapes and forwarding through to the fun parts. I couldn’t believe how little they both were. Listening to Ali’s little gruff voice telling me things was just darling. She was such a little busy body. She was jumping around, climbing on things and talking non-stop just like she does today. Megan was a super chunk and she loved seeing herself crawl around ‘growling’ and being charming. I could have watched them all night. I really enjoyed it. And I think the girls did too.
I was especially grateful when they climbed into their beds and went to sleep without any protesting. It always feels good when you can tuck them in and leave with a good feeling.
When I went in to check on them a few hours later Megan was yet again curled up on the end of Ali’s bed, squished into the 2-foot space she had.
I picked her up and put her back in her own bed. I’m glad I did, because unfortunately she had an accident last night… I probably should have woken her up to go to the bathroom, but that’s okay, we’ll keep trying.. First thing she said when she woke up was “will I have to wear a pull-up tonight?”
Oh and cute Mattie had been hanging with us the entire time. He LOVES playing with the little trinkets and things that the girls have on their shelves.
He was particularly intent on getting something on the top shelf of Ali’s and kept saying "dat, pees, Dat, pees" so I picked him up and let him point it out to me. When I handed it to him he took it out of my hand, immediately stuck his hand up under his chin and said “dant-do” (aka Thank you). He’s such a smart boy. We only showed him once and he does it all the time now.

I give it a TEN!
What a fun day we've had today. I can't even remember the last time that Taylor and I had a weekend off together. Taylor was scheduled for his last orientation shift at the Hospital today but was taken off because He's got to get his license renewed. I am so glad because today has been so good for all of us.
We all slept in until 8 this morning, which is a total luxury to both of us. Then after some french toast we all sat down to decide what we wanted to do for the day. We had lots of suggestions from the choir, but in the end, Jungle Jim's won out.
Mattie Liked the roller coaster alright, until it stopped and started going backwards.. that totally freaked him out and he wanted nothing to do with it again.
(please excuse my Ultra cheesy grin)
The Girls However LOVE the roller coaster and rode it many times
Megan was So cute 'Ms Independent'. she chose a seat all by herself away from the other kids and with her arms in the air She giggled and screamed enjoying every minute of the ride.
Ski ball.....
My all time favorite too.
And Check out how cute Meg's outfit is in the background..
Look how big he is!!!
.

Hope you all had a good Saturday too.

Catching up.
So lets catch up shall we?
Craig is still here. And yes, we are still enjoying his company.
Last week we watched Michie, Emmie, and Olivia while Ang had Orientation. It was pretty crazy at first, but by mid week, we’d gotten everyone into a routine. Things went quite smoothly from there. I have to give Taylor credit for most of that.. He was seriously super dad, keeping the house clean, and taking care of 6 kids! His laid back personality can really be a blessing sometimes.
.
Angie Home schools her two older girls, so I picked that up for her the days I was home.. Ali was a fantastic little tutor; I think Michie felt quite privileged to be her little pupil.
.
Thursday I took them ALL to the dentist for Ali and Megan’s 6 month check up.. I was quite amazed at how smoothly it went. The girls behaved beautifully, and hooray, No cavities.
.
Week in review via picture........................................…. CHAOS!!!!!!!
Friday evening, The North’s (sans Michael) came to town for a visit and for MJ’s 5-month pictures. Coryne and Ali tore the place up and were literally jumping off the furniture until we had to separate them for bed. Megan and Shane weren’t far behind.
Saturday we had a great photo shoot, then ran errands with them before they left for home. Let me just say…. 6 kids running errands… Not so fun. But we made it.
.
Sunday........ Ahhhhhhhh quite! LOVED it!
.
Monday we started over again with the Cason girls
More ‘home schooling’ and lots of play-doh..
Taylor started his NEW JOB at UPS (YEAH!!!) His last day at Primary Children’s is the 27th. He’s sad to leave After 5 years, but it’s a really good move for our family. I’m really proud of him, and super excited for great benefits. You’d think we had great benefits working for IHC, but they really suck.
Tuesday I had a really nice visit from my visiting teacher (her partner had sick kids). It was really nice to sit and chat and get to know her. Even though I have been in the ward for 5 years, I’m still socially hopeless and don’t know people very well.
.
TodayI worked again.. a VERY busy day and finally an early bedtime for the kids which means blogging time for me!
.

Happy New year!
It has been pretty chaotic around our house the last few days.
Monday Morning we dragged the poor kids out of bed to take Craig to the Airport at 6:30 am. The kids were sad to see him go, but felt better knowing that he’d be back in less than a week.
Ang came over with her girls and their New edition.
Meet Ruthie..

Mattie was in love with her (as were all the children)
They stayed for most of the day which is usually how it goes.
Over 8 hours of kids running around screaming, playing, giggling and demanding food, watching movies like this one (without the Children of course), and at least half a dozen games of Zilch for Ang and I. It was Fabulous!
Taylor was going to take the girls with him to his Aunts house for their Annual New Years eve party, but got home too late after taking Trax home.
Yesterday Taylor got called off from work so we spent the day running around with the kids. First, a little 75% off ‘After Christmas’ shopping at Target.
Mattie has taken over my MP3 Shuffle.
Every time I try to put it on, he comes running. He actually listens to it too. I stick the earplugs in his tiny little ears, and clip it to his jammies and off he runs. When an earplug falls out he hands it to me and leans his empty ear towards me. He's done this 3 times in the last two days! I think he’s going to be a rock star like his big sister.
(PS, don't mind the messy jammies.. I really do bathe him)
Today, I’m at work. The start of my Five in a row 12 hour shifts. Ugh… Craig will be here again this weekend, so I’ll try and blog a few more times while I’m here at work (shhh, don’t tell) because I am sure he’ll be hording my laptop.

Blogging: computer required.
“GIVE ME BACK MY LAPTOP!”
He’s a total computer hog! I mean really, I think I’ve had it an entire 15 minutes in the last week and a half! He even wrote half of the two posts I made! (Hence the “beautiful wife Merry” part)
What a bum!
Okay, so I really have enjoyed having Craig here. It has been years since we’ve been able to sit and talk like we have this week. Having him here has really instilled my beliefs in the importance of family support and of spending time with the people that are important to me (like, My family!)
It thrills me even more that he and his wife have decided to move here from Washington! He’s already gotten himself a job (yes in the first week he’s been here!!) and has already looked at places for them to live. I’m seriously impressed by his initiative and drive to support his family and to get things done. He and I have a lot in common that way. It is really awesome to watch. I’m hoping that a little of that might be inspiration to my own dear loving husband….
Christmas aftermath…
Ali has already broken her ipod earphones and LOVES singing in her microphone;

We’re still in love with this
(thanks to grandma) its really quite cute! and fits perfectly in Matties Tonka truck!!
And Megan's talking My little pony keeps going off all by itself……. Spooky!
I played Mancala with Ang all day yesterday………
And my brother got one of These and Its really fun to play… Although I still don’t want one in my house….(cuz, I DESPIZE video games!!!!)
oh, and I'm thinking about doing this.........
Well, My time is limited so I must go.. But I’ll try my best to post some more this weekend

Fire Alarm!
There was smoke, it was loud, I was scared.
I ran into the girls’ bedroom as they were sitting up in their beds confused but waking up very quickly. Their room was filled with smoke. My eyes darted around their bedroom wondering if the cause of the smoke was in their room. I was relieved when it wasn’t.. I encouraged them to come on, and quickly ran to Matties room where I scooped him out of his crib.
We headed toward the stairs.
More smoke.
I wondered if I was going to be rushing my children through a fire to get out of the house..
Through Thick Smoke and choking breaths we hurried down the stairs.
That’s where we found Taylor, standing in very smokey kitchen holding a very charcoaled pan of Ramen noodles!
He had apparently fallen asleep while making himself a midnight snack.
It was a very short but tense situation, me gathering my children in thick billows of smoke ready to carry them outside to safety.
Sleeping afterwards was not easy for any of us. After the excitement wore off the smell and remaining smoke in the house kept us awake longer.
I’m afraid the smell has still not improved.
This morning I asked Ali about it.
I said “well At least we know our smoke alarms work”
her reply….. “And that Heavenly Father is watching over us!”
I whole heartedly agreed.
This morning the girls drew pictures of the event for show and tell.
Here is Megan’s’ interpretation of it..

The weekend re-cap
Wednesday I was thrilled to take the girls to see Enchanted.
Just the girls and me, no boys allowed. I LOVED having each of them on either side of me with no distractions to ruin the moment. I loved their enthusiasm. I was even happier when the movie was really really good!
Thanksgiving was so laid back. We enjoyed good food and delicious desserts without even lifting a finger.. We spent the evening as a family that night and I thoroughly enjoyed getting the Christmas stuff out, especially listening to Taylor whistling tunes as he strung the lights.
Friday We went to Brunch with My sister and her new boyfriend, whom we hadn’t met yet. My Mom and Brother came too.. It was fun to sit around and get to know him a little. It was even more enjoyable eating yummy IHOP pancakes……..mmmmmmm
the Cason's came over and spent the ENTIRE afternoon and evening with us.. I LOVE it when friends come over and make themselves comfortable. It’s a great feeling. The kids ran amuck as usual while Ang and I sat in the kitchen (as usual) cooking, chatting, and shooing kids away (lovingly ofcourse). We watched a movie on my lap top in the living room so that we were away from the chaos yet still in ear shot of them. We watched “Tuck Everlasting” which I thought was very cute. (Thanks Steph for the Movie)
Megan was relentless and finally convinced us to allow her to spend the night at The Cason’s house. She’s done it a few times before so I wasn’t worried about her plus I knew that it meant they’d have to come back the next day so I was all for it!
Saturday Was another Full day of playing, cooking, and movie watching. We rented The Santa Clause 3 from Redbox and all of us sat around clapping and cheering while we watched it. Even the littles..
And Now, I sit here at work.. a Slow Sunday afternoon listening to the hum of the computer and Nurses rushing by instead of the playing and giggling of my children…….
Oh well…
4 more days………

Down in the Gully
We thought we'd take advantage of the warm weather because tomorrow we're supposed to dip back down in the 30's.The kids had a great time throwing sticks into the creek.
There is a park nearby and we took a little cracker eating, post balancing pit stop.
I can't say I'm looking forward to the cold weather. I'm not one for Snow unless I can afford to go Snowboarding.... ahhh snowboarding.. Taylor proposed to me while we were Snowboarding.........
so I washed the girls hair and blow dried it out..
I think I was able to make Ali's not look so masculine......... I am terrible at doing hair but I think it looks better.......
Before ............................................and ..........................................After

Flu Shots!
Taylor and I get ours for free at work, but the kids get to go to their Pediatricians office tonight.
They know were going, and they're both freaking out.....
Megan keeps saying "its just a little 'beep' that's all, right mama?"
I'll let you know how it goes.
Later....
Flu shots are officially done for the year! Wahoo! we got to the clinic early and there wasn't much of a wait. The girls fought over who would go first, so it fell on poor Mattie . I had them each look at me and count to ten but I didn't get past the number 5 before it was done and over with.
Tradition always calls for a double scoop of ice cream after shots, so it was off to Baskin Robins when we were through.
Confession:
Yes, I get my shot free at work.................................
NO I haven't gotten it yet! ..........
I admit it! I'm scared!!!
Taylor admitted the same thing today and we both snickered at each other while the kids were in the back seat dreading their own!

Day Seven.....What's TV?
We did have a few more TV comments today than there has been. I think for all of us, it just sounded so good to sit back and watch a movie. I didn't cave though.. I'm holding strong..... And actually its getting a bit easier.. I'm realizing just how much we didn't watch it, but had it on in the background for no reason..
The Girls and I worked on art projects for the rest of the day, including a walk to the school for a few pictures ( I consider that my art project). The weather was Gorgeous but No one was in the mood to cooperate so I didn't get any really good shots with the three of them together. (its so much easier with other peoples kids!) I do love the one below where they're all distracted in their own little way. I think Megan was checking out a booger......
oh well. I have a few more weeks for Christmas cards!
Ali is entering this years "Reflections" contest at school, and did a really great job on a drawing of herself helping with Special Olympics. I'll take a picture of it when she's all done..

Day 6 Did I say Fabulous?
Thursday, November 1, 2007
Halloween continued..........

No TV day two
I worked again today. I feel like I'm cheating.
I called to check in during lunch time and Taylor had caved! "only for a minute" he claimed, but I reprimanded him and they turned it off.
Ex came over and fixed my computer tonight (he's a computer specialist) . I called him last week and asked him to. I quite surprised myself when I did it, but was even more surprised when he agreed, and came happily to do it. He actually started working on it last Sunday after he dropped off the girls. Then when he brought the girls home tonight, he stayed.
it was the most cordial two hours we've spent in the same room in 5 years. If it could just stay like this for the next 20 years then we could raise these girls so much better. A combined effort from both sides works so much better than the friction and contention that's lived among us for so long. We had some interesting conversation, and he even sat in the same room as Taylor without incident.

Halloween Party
the Kids had so much fun, and the house is TRASHED!
First we painted pumpkins.

After pumpkins we played the "mummy game" which consists of wrapping your partner up with an entire roll of toilet paper. remember that scene in "Grease" where they are at the dance and they tip that big hat full of toilet paper? It was like that.. Toilet paper EVERYWHERE!
then we decorated cupcakes....
I think it will take another week to clean it all up..
