New Member of the family

Meet Lydia We've talked on and off for ages about getting a bird.
Well, Taylor actually, because frankly they terrified me.
I once bird-sat for a friend of mine, and She'd forgotten to mention that it liked to dive bomb your head!
The girls and I decided last week that we'd get Taylor a bird for Fathers day.
They returned today from their week with their dad.
We packed up the van, and got right down to business.
we went to the Pet store and loaded up on all things parakeet. I made sure we chose a girl so that it might "bond" with Taylor considering it will be "his" bird and all.. They told me that its pretty typical for the males to bond with woman and vice versa.

Picking her out was fun. Mattie is a bird lover to the extreme squealing and shouting "birdie!, Birdie!" anytime he sees one so you can imagine how excited he was and still is.

When Taylor got home from work we all surprised him with her set up in the living room. He was a bit shocked I think, but happy.

I've quite surprised myself and have already become attached to the darn thing. She's very sweet. I've even held her without gloves!
She's still pretty skittish, but after the kids were in bed we brought her out to get acquainted better with her new home.

side note: Taylor's not really growing out his hair, he's just too busy to get a haircut! Its gotten very long!

and don't mind the quilts hanging over the front window that you see in the background... I've decided that I'm going to cut down the amount of Sun that comes in from our West facing window and try and avoid the uncomfortable afternoon heat that it brings with it. I put them up yesterday and was amazed at how much cooler the front room stayed... I'm going to look into some good sun shades but I'm positive that we'll have to special order them because the window is huge. I found some awesome curtain panels at IKEA a few weeks ago, but they're 59 dollars a panel and I'd need 3 of them.... For now... Quilts will have to do..

We had a parakeet for a few months, but it was a mean little guy, and would not every let us hold him, so we ended up getting a cockateil instead. I'm glad that you got a nice parakeet though, because they're so much cuter! Good luck!
