Swimming~Sleep~Teeth

Last night we went swimming for a bit. It was fun, and Papa even swam with us. Megan had great time swimming around with him, and letting him throw her from his shoulders. I watched their interaction and it was as if I was watching myself 25 years ago. I remember my dad playing with us in the pool like that. Afterwards we sat in the front yard (my mom, Steph, and my dad) chatting while the kids ran around.
Mathew stayed in his big boy bed for over an hour last night. I proofed his room, put up the tiny baby gate in his doorway and tucked him in.. I checked on him about every ten minutes and although he stayed in his bed, he wasn’t sleeping. He seemed uncomfortable and out of sorts, although he wasn’t complaining. Finally around quarter to Ten, I picked him up and laid him in his crib. He fell asleep shortly thereafter. I think it will just take a few more nights of getting used to the feel of things for him. Its an awfully big bed for such a little boy (a full size), he must feel safer in his crib.
Megan worked all evening on a lose tooth, determined to get a visit from the tooth fairy. Brooke (Ali’s friend) slept over again last night, and apparently she was more than happy to assist Megan in the loss. All three girls slept downstairs in the family room and Megan tucked her tooth securely under her pillow. It was very late so Taylor and I had gone to bed knowing that the “tooth fairy” would have time before she/he had to go to work in the morning to make the deposit. Both of us were up getting ready for work around 5:45 this morning and we heard loud chatter and the sound of feet running around. I ran downstairs to stop the noise before they woke up Mattie and there was Brooke talking VERY loudly and bouncing around Megan’s head pointing out that the Tooth Fairy had not come. I reprimanded the girls and reminded them of the time, encouraging Meg to come upstairs and sleep in our bed so that things might quiet down. Meanwhile I am pretty sure the Tooth Fairy deposited a dollar under Megan’s pillow in her bedroom. When Meg mentioned disappointedly that her tooth was still under her pillow downstairs I suggested that the Tooth Fairy might have been worried about coming downstairs with all the ruckus, and she should check her room. Taylor and I stood in the hallway out of sight while she went into look. She was SO cute, she reached under her pillow and pulled out the dollar bill, then holding it like a delicate treasure, she turned and surveyed her room as if looking for any other signs of the Tooth Fairy’s visit. She brought it in to show us climbing into our bed and falling back to sleep with a little smile on her face. Oh the innocence..

Such sweet stories! I'm excited for the Tooth Fairy's first visit to our house!
I know what you mean - watching my dad in the pool with the kids totally brings back memories from my childhood too.
I'm glad that Mattie is adjusting well to his big boy bed. Unfortunately, I think it'll be a LONG time before we're able to move Danny to a bed - we need him in his crib where he can't escape! Otherwise he'd be all over the house all night! ;)
