Family Defined

I spent years coveting faultless appearing families. Couples who looked like they’d never fought a day in their lives. The young parents swinging their 3 year old between them the look of adoration in their eyes. The picturesque Thanksgiving Dinner Table complete with Grandma and Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins giggling and making faces at each other across the room at the ‘children’s table’. Perfect right? Or is it?
What is Family?
Is it blood?
Is it a bond?
Is it Love?
Is It conditional?
I’ve had many opportunities in my life to see what the word “family” could mean.
What I’ve come to believe is that It is Not perfect.
It is Not blood.
It IS different for many people and it IS Unconditional.
It’s LOVE, TRUST, and FORGIVENESS.
It’s who willingly comes running when we’re down or need a hand. It’s whom you want to be there for when you know they need you and it makes you feel wonderful knowing you’re their for them. It’s all of those things and more. It doesn’t have requirements, and it isn’t perfect.
Thanksgivings like that only happen in commercials, but that doesn’t mean what happens at our own table can't be wonderful.
What is Family to you?

Well put Jess. Very well defined. Family to me is a place where you can feel like yourself, where you can laugh and cry and yell if you need to and know that your family will always love you. Where you are supported. Where you serve and love.

Both you and Megan said it wonderfully.
